Non-profit?
brittanyw13@sbcglobal.net asked:
I am trying to raise money for a Non-Profit Organization that trains dogs for physically, mentally, or emotionally disabled people. Any ideas on how to raise money or get donations? They also rescue dogs and train them before they are adopted out.

You can do a doggy wash, like a car wash, but for peoples dogs. You can do poloroid pictures of dog and owner, if its a holiday add the background for it. A bake sale, yard sale, or just the jar in the local stores.

wash dogs, makes homemade treats and sell them, pet sit for people, just a few ideas for you
Create a video blog
i was also going to say a dog wash. along with the dog wash you can have a bake sale for doggy baked goods. ask a vet that might work with you to do a shot clinic where most of the proceeds go to the organization. where i am they have a section in the newspaper for pets and their owners, so try to run an ad in the paper. also try and get the newspaper or news stations to run or air a segment on the fund raiser. don’t forget to call any shelters, rescue groups, etc and any other places that do things for the people you are getting dogs for, I’m sure they will love the idea and get people to come. you could also try a raffle table. ask local business to donate for the raffle table. i also found out that if you write businesses that sell animal product and ask for donations, 9 times out of 10 they will send you something.
this site has quite a few different dog treat recipes

I volunteer for a similar organization.
We raise money lots of ways.
Ask for it – On your web site, at events, on your letters etc. You have to ask.
Direct solictation from our adopters/partners etc. We have compiled a mailing list over the years and we do an online newsletter and an annual solicitation letter every year. It does quiet well.
Grants. We have matching grants for many of our programs. We have people that just work on this. Find someone who knows how. If you don’t have someone, Learn. It’s not hard. It’s just filling out forms.
Every year we do Pet pictures with Santa. It’s a blast and we sell our shirts, dog treats and other stuff people donate. It’s a great event and we make it a DAY of fun, not just getting your dog’s picture taken with Santa.
We board dogs, offer dog training, do dog washes and other fund raisers. Some of those include Canine happy hours at local pubs. They are fun especially when places have patios where you can bring your dog.
Plant sales with local green houses. We have an annual event that the greenhouse donates 20% of the days sale to our organization. We market the daylights out of it and bring tons of business to them. It’s grown from a $1500.00 day to close to 10,000.00. Adopters make a point to come back to visit just to attend this event.
Look at Goodsearch. It’s wonderful. Money for searching.
Then you can do the easy stuff. Dog washes, bake sales, car washes, yard sales. The list is endless.
Brainstorm with your friends. Combine the things you love to do and then make an event out of it. That’s where the gardening day came from. I love to garden and my favorite garden store had labs… I talked to them and 5 years later this is a HUGE deal – for that store and for us. Plus it’s fun.
You can do golf outings, silent auctions, dinners, you name it. Like I said, get a bunch of your friends together and brainstorm. You’ll come up with tons of ideas.
One peice of advice. If you do events, make them fun. Not just about the money. It’s better for your volunteers and for the people attending. They are more apt to spend or give if it’s a fun thing not just you asking for $.
Right now we are doing a HUGE capital campaign. I mean HUGE. We’ve never asked donors for big bucks before but we are now. We are hitting up the people in our city who give to all the big causes – Ask them. They donate. If your books are in order and you are a worthy organization, they may give to you.
Best of luck to you and keep up the great work!
non profit
I did this with a group of people wheen I was in school to be a vet tech. Here’s some of what we did.
1. A dog wash. Some places don’t even require any percent of the profit (but some do!) and all you need is a few buckets and some dog shampoo! It also targets the dog owners in your community- who are more likely togive to such a cause.
2. Bake sales, for human and doggy goodies.
3. The most effetive thing our class did… was a food/ bed drive. A lot of people were more likely to donate a bag of dog food, blankets, or a bed than their cash. Some people want to give, but aren’t comfortable giving CASH. It doesn’t bring in physical money, but these are items than any doggy organization can never have enough of.
Good luck, and happy tails!
